Lonza Group AG is a Swiss contract development and manufacturing organisation that makes drug substances and finished medicines for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. It was founded in 1897 at Gampel in the canton of Valais as Elektrizitätswerk Lonza, built to exploit the hydroelectric power of the River Lonza, and moved through carbide, nitrogen and petrochemistry into fine chemistry and biotechnology; its Visp campus, opened in 1928, is now its largest production site. The group is headquartered in Basel and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange as LONN, with a secondary listing on the Singapore Exchange, and is organised into three platforms: Integrated Biologics, Advanced Synthesis and Specialized Modalities. For 2025 it reported sales of CHF 6.5 billion and CORE EBITDA of CHF 2.1 billion from its continuing CDMO business, and employed 19,771 full-time equivalents at year end. Its Capsules & Health Ingredients division is reported as discontinued operations while the group works towards an exit. Wolfgang Wienand has been chief executive since 2024.
