Roche Holding

Roche Holding

Roche Holding AG is the Basel-listed parent of the Roche group, the world's largest maker of in-vitro diagnostics and one of the largest pharmaceutical companies by revenue, with group sales of CHF 61.5 billion in 2025 and 112,774 employees. Founded in Basel on 15 January 1896 by Fritz Hoffmann-La Roche, it runs two divisions: Pharmaceuticals, built on oncology franchises including Herceptin, Avastin, Rituxan and the newer Tecentriq and Polivy, plus ophthalmology, neurology, haematology and immunology; and Diagnostics, which sells the cobas analyser platforms, molecular and tissue diagnostics and point-of-care testing to laboratories and hospitals. The group owns Genentech outright, acquired in 2009, and holds a majority stake in Japan's Chugai Pharmaceutical. Its shares are structured unusually for a company of its size: the founding families and descendants hold a controlling block of the voting bearer shares, while the stock most investors trade on the SIX Swiss Exchange under ROG is a non-voting participation certificate.
