Zymergen
Zymergen was a biotechnology company founded in 2013 in Emeryville, California. It combined biology, chemistry, software and automation to engineer microorganisms and develop materials. Ginkgo Bioworks acquired it in 2022; after Zymergen entered Chapter 11 in 2023, Ginkgo purchased substantially all its assets and its liquidation plan was confirmed in 2024.
